A fire caused by a short circuit erupted in a house in Delhi's Lajpat Nagar, DFS team successfully rescued three individuals.

A major fire broke out in a house located in southeast Delhi's Lajpat Nagar area during the early hours of Sunday, as per a PTI report. The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) received a call regarding the blaze, which originated on the first floor of the house, at 1:57 AM, prompting the dispatch of five fire engines to the scene.

According to a senior DFS official, it was reported that some people were trapped inside the house. The DFS team successfully rescued three individuals, including two senior citizens, one of whom is differently-abled. These individuals were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor burn injuries.

"We learnt that some people were trapped inside the house. Our team rescued three people. Two senior citizens, one of whom is differently-abled, were among those rescued," a senior DFS official said.

The official further indicated that the fire appears to have been caused by a short circuit. Concurrently, the police were notified of the incident, with information reaching them around 2 AM. Upon arrival, the Station House Officer (SHO) and their team initiated rescue operations with the assistance of local residents while awaiting the arrival of fire tenders.

"The SHO along with the staff reached the spot and started the rescue work with the help of local residents as fire tenders were on their way," a senior police officer told PTI.

After the fire tenders arrived, the blaze was brought under control within approximately half an hour. All individuals trapped on the second and third floors of the building were safely rescued. Three individuals experienced breathing difficulties due to smoke inhalation and were consequently transferred to a hospital for medical attention.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire originated on the first floor, due to a short circuit. "The fire had broken out due to a short circuit and spread on the first floor where clothes were stored. Appropriate action is being taken in the matter," the officer said.

The building, constructed on a 40-square-yard plot, consisted of four stories. Further inquiries into the incident are currently underway, as stated by the police officer overseeing the case.
