Delhi Borders Cordoned Off With Stone Barricades To Prevent Farmers To Hold 'Mahila Panchayat'. WATCH

Police used stone barricades on Sunday to keep farmers and women from entering the national capital for a 'Mahila Panchayat' protest outside the new Parliament building.

The police cordoned off Delhi's borders with stone barricades on Sunday to prevent farmers and women from entering the national capital for a 'Mahila Panchayat' protest outside the new Parliament building. Following a call by a group of khap panchayats to hold an all-woman panchayat in support of the protesting wrestlers at the new Parliament building on May 28, the Delhi Police has made strict security arrangements and decided to close all borders.

Earlier on Friday, Delhi Police sources told ABP News that no permission had been granted for the 'mahila panchayat,' and that all roads leading to the Parliament building around Jantar Mantar would be closed. The protesters will not be allowed to hold the panchayat because Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be inaugurating the new Parliament building on the same day, according to police.

The Delhi Police has also devised elaborate security plans for May 28. There will be a large number of police and paramilitary personnel deployed. Women police officers will also be deployed in large numbers.

To prevent a law and order situation, all of Delhi's borders will be sealed, including the Singhu border, the Dilshad Garden border, the Badarpur border, and the Tikri border, and paramilitary forces will be deployed. Six more companies will be retained in the North East Delhi region, which was hit by riots in 2020. There will also be two women companies stationed.

Last week, an umbrella group of khap panchayats announced plans to hold an all-woman panchayat in support of the wrestlers, who are demanding the arrest of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
