AAP Ministers Inspect Relief Camps As Yamuna Recedes, IMD Predicts More Rain In Delhi Today — Top Points

Many areas across Delhi continue to remain severely waterlogged as rain battered the town on Saturday. Meanwhile, AAP has questioned BJP over water not being diverted towards Haryana and UP.

Delhi continues to battle severe floods and key areas remain submerged as Yamuna flows at 205.78 metres as of 2 PM on Sunday. The condition worsened with a fresh spell of heavy rain on Saturday that caused the water level of the Yamuna River to increase further, as reported by the news agency ANI. As per IMD, Delhi received around 11 mm of rainfall in three hours on Saturday. The Rajghat area also witnessed flooding amid the rise in the water level of the Yamuna. The Mayur Vihar area saw massive floods as shanties were completely submerged on Sunday. Here are the top points on the Delhi flood situation:

Top Points On Delhi Flood

  • Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday visited a flood relief camp in Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya at Mori Gate in north Delhi. During his visit to the relief camp where residents from the flooded Yamuna Bazar area have taken shelter, the CM was accompanied by Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Atishi. "Due to the rise in the water level of Yamuna River, many low-lying areas were affected and have been facing waterlogging for the past few days. So residents of affected areas were moved to various relief camps across the capital. Six districts in the city have been affected and Delhi government has set up relief camps at several places in these six districts. Relief camps were set up in nearby schools and Dharamshalas and facilities for drinking water and toilets were ensured. This is one such relief camp, we have residents from the Yamuna Bazar area here", CM Kejriwal told reporters here.

  • CM Kejriwal said, "We have opened relief camps in different areas for the people whose homes were inundated due to overflowing of Yamuna...so many people have lost important documents like Aadhaar during the floods, a special camp will be put up for these people afterwards, we will provide textbooks and uniforms to children who have lost these things. We are also planning to give some adhoc relief to the people who have lost all their belongings in the flood."

  • Delhi LG Vinay Kumar Saxena inspected flood-affected areas in Raj Ghat.

  • Indian Naval diving team carried out an operation to open the gate of Yamuna Barrage, ITO. Indian Navy's Captain Sanjay Kadyan said, "15 members of our team are here.  We are here for the last 2 days. Today we are diving at gate number 30 and will do the desilting work there. We are also ready to help in the work underway at gate number 31."

  • Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj inspected a relief camp in Mayur Vihar as Yamuna level recedes. While inspecting the ITO Yamuna Barrage, he said that Yamuna water level is going down at a good speed. "In some time, the water level will go below the danger mark...as the level of water will recede a little bit more, water on ITO road will enter into this..," he added.

  • Delhi minister Atishi inspected relief camps for flood-affected people and said, "There are some problems in these relief camps. So we are moving them to the nearest government schools where better facilities will be provided to them."

  • Delhi Mayor Dr Shelly Oberoi visited flood-affected Priyadarshini Colony in Kashmere Gate. "Here, people have told us that they lost so many important documents like Aadhaar & voter ID cards during the flood. We assure people that we will set up a camp so that they can make these govt documents soon," Oberoi told media here.

  • Speaking on the Delhi flood, Union Minister Anurag Thakur said that Arvind Kejriwal always runs away from his responsibilities.

  • Meanwhile, the entry and exit at Yamuna Bank Metro Station have now been opened, announced DMRC.

  • According to PTI, the IMD has also predicted the possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall in various parts of Delhi-NCR.

  • Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday tweeted that Chandrawal water treatment plant has started, raising hope that the Yamuna water level would further recede from the town. The Indraprastha embankment on the Yamuna River in Delhi was sealed after a 20-hour repair operation by workers and Army personnel on Saturday. One of the jammed gates of the ITO barrage was also opened during the operation.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena about the condition of the national capital reeling from days of flooding after days of heavy rainfall, as he returned from abroad.  LG VK Saxena paid a visit on Saturday to Delhi's Yamuna Bazar area to take stock of the situation there. The area now remains underwater.

  • As per an official release by the Directorate of Information & Publicity, a total of 44 relief camps have been setup with basic amenities including food, drinking water and health care facilities. 21 such relief camps are in Government Buildings, so that toilet facilities are adequate. The people at remaining 23 relief camps are being pursued to shift from temporary camps to identified Government schools building /community hall, etc. so that they would not face problems related to proper sanitation, such as toilet, etc

  • Delhi’s AAP government questioned Haryana’s decision to release so much water towards the national capital and slammed the BJP. Delhi Revenue Minister Atishi said, "From Hathnikund, water goes to 3 places Delhi, Haryana and UP. Even though in Delhi the water level was crossing the danger mark, not a single drop of water was diverted to Haryana & UP, why? Was it because these 2 states are BJP ruled? BJP must answer...was this a conspiracy against people of Delhi?..."

  • Addressing a press conference, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia and party leader Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma said that the Delhi flood was caused by the lack of desilting of Yamuna in the last eight years of the Kejriwal government. "The AAP and Kejriwal are big on making excuses, corruption and inaction. Just like they blamed the Centre and other states during the COVID-19 pandemic and for pollution, they were now accusing Haryana for flood in Delhi," PTI quoted Bhatia as saying.
