'BJP Councillors Came On Stage To Attack Me': Delhi's Mayor Amid Uproar In MCD House. WATCH

Following the commotion, today's session was adjourned, and the poll is rescheduled to take place on Monday.

Uproar erupted once more during the standing committee elections at the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) House session today, with 242 of the 250 councillors casting their ballots. Under the instruction of new Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi, a new election was held to elect six members of the MCD's highest decision-making body, news agency PTI voted.

Following the commotion, today's session was adjourned, and the poll is rescheduled to take place on Monday.

The counting of ballots was halted after the BJP objected to one vote being declared invalid. According to the Mayor, an invalid vote cannot be considered valid, and the result will be declared without the invalid vote. Following that, members of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the BJP yelled insults at one another.

Blaming BJP for the uproar, Shelly Oberoi stated: "Standing committee elections were held as per BJP demands. Still, they created a ruckus & came up on stage to attack me. I thank female Civil Defence personnel for saving me. BJP members physically assaulted AAP female members. BJP accept your defeat."

Accusing AAP councillors of physically assaulting her during the ruckus, BJP's Meenakshi Sharma stated: "Someone from AAP hit me with a sharp object. They also touched my neck. It was done by a male Councillor. They haven’t allowed a single House sustain. Don’t know if she's Delhi's Mayor or AAP's. She acts on orders by Kejriwal & other masters."

Speaking about the election result, former Delhi Mayor Aarti Mehra stated: "Mayor has no right to decide result, she can only announce it. We'll go to court & take legal action against her. I can show video where Atishi is seen giving directions to create ruckus. Strong action will be taken. We will fight against these goon."

"Election results are being tampered, wrong announcements being made&they're indulging in fistfights. Several of our Councillors were injured. FIR is being lodged. The manner in which they've been beaten up, AAP has shown that they are a party of goons," BJP's Vijender Gupta stated.
