'Some Sit In AC Rooms, Some Do Ground Work': BJP As Delhi Govt Convenes Meet To Discuss Plan On Pollution

BJP has sharpened its attack on CM Kejriwal-led AAP government in the national capital after it called private construction agencies for a meeting to discuss plans to battle dust pollution in Delhi.

Ahead of the winter season, the Delhi government has begun work on devising strategies to contain the level of pollution in the national capital which grapples with hazardous levels of pollutants in winter every year. Now, the AAP government has called private agencies carrying out construction activities in Delhi for a meeting to discuss a plan to tackle dust pollution. Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai gave the information, as per ANI.

Meanwhile, reacting to it, BJP MP from Delhi and Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi said that some people only convene meetings while others do the groundwork.

"Some people chair meetings while some people do the groundwork. We do the groundwork & not just sit in the airconditioned rooms. Delhi's transport arrangement needs to be improved if the pollution has to be controlled...Work should be done on public transport..." she said.

Lekhi added that the "free culture" in Delhi will not work but adding more fleets of buses to boost public transport would help in battling the pollution in the capital city.

This comes nearly 10 days after Environment Minister Gopal Rai said that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will announce a winter action plan on October 1. He addressed a press briefing after holding a meeting with 28 departments and said the government has identified 13 hotspots in the national capital and a special plan will be chalked out for them.

"We held a meeting with 28 departments today and all have been directed to give their winter action plans by September 25. There are 13 such hotspots that have been identified and special plan will be made for them," Rai told the reporters.

According to PTI, he said 13 teams have been formed for each of the hotspots and 15 points have been flagged that the government will focus on.

“The 15 points that we will focus on are - hotspots, stubble pollution, vehicular pollution, open garbage burning, industrial pollution, green war room, real-time apportionment study, complete ban on firecrackers, tree plantation, urban farming, eco waste park, public awareness, communication with the Centre, neighbouring states and implementation of GRAP (Graded Response Action Plan),” Rai further said, as quoted by PTI.
