BJP On Kejriwal's 'Rs 45 Cr Home Beautification'
BJP on Tuesday alleged that Aam Aadmi Party-led government spent nearly Rs 45 crore on renovating Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's official residence. AAP in its defence said that the house allotted to Kejriwal was in bad shape before renovation and was rebuilt on the basis of recommendations by the Public Works Department.
BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra slammed the Aam Aadmi Party leader for betraying his promise of promoting honesty and simplicity when he entered politics. He called Kejriwal a "Maharaj" and said even kings will bow to Kejriwal for his choice of "superior" products in the residence and his "lust for luxury and comfort".
Speaking to reporters, Patra alleged that Kejriwal offered Rs 20 crore to Rs 50 crore to media houses to not highlight the story but news channels and newspapers ignored the offer.
Citing documents, the BJP spokesperson said that Kejriwal spent lakhs on imported marble, plush interiors, and curtains. He claimed that one curtain alone cost around 8 lakhs.
AAP Reacts To Allegations
The Aam Aadmi Party sharply reacted to the allegations that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal spent around Rs 45 crores on the 'beautification' of his official CM residence. Several AAP leaders refuted the claims made and said that the house allotted to CM Kejriwal was around 80 years old. AAP MP Sanjay Singh did a press conference earlier in the day and said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had bought a plane for himself worth Rs 8,400 crores during Covid.
Singh compared the renovation of the houses of Delhi LG, PM Modi to that of CM Kejriwal. He also mentioned the private jets and planes some other politicians have access to.
He said, "Rs 15 Cr was spent in repair of LG Niwas, Gujarat CM's plane costs Rs 191 Cr and Rs 500 Cr was spent to repair PM Modi's house."
Singh said that the house that was allotted to Kejriwa was an 80-year-old house. He said it was built in 1942 and there were not one but three incidents of roof collapse. He said that it was in a very bad state it was only after these incidents that Public Works Department (PWD) decided to renovate the bungalow.
