The Delhi High Court on Wednesday refrained from intervening in the case involving Kejriwal's arrest related to the Delhi excise policy, issuing a notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for both the primary matter and Delhi CM's plea for interim relief. The court has scheduled the matter for "final disposal" on April 3.
Kejriwal's custody under the ED is set to conclude on Thursday, after which he will be presented before the Rouse Avenue Court. Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, presiding over the single-judge bench, observed that the requests for Kejriwal's release in both petitions are similar and identical.
Sunita, the wife of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, indicated that her husband will make significant revelations regarding the alleged excise policy scam during the court proceedings on Thursday.
Despite the lack of immediate relief from the Delhi High Court, she remains optimistic about Kejriwal's stance. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena underscored that the Delhi government would not be operated from jail, amidst speculation about Kejriwal's continued tenure. He made his remarks during a summit by Times Now.
In a PTI interview, AAP leader and Delhi cabinet minister Atishi noted legal provisions disqualifying a lawmaker upon conviction, responding to Saxena's statements. She also suggested that Kejriwal's arrest could politically benefit AAP in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, denouncing his arrest as an attack on democracy.
Protests erupted from both AAP and BJP factions, with demands for resignation and counter-sloganeering. AAP legislators, donned in yellow attire and 'Kejriwal' masks, protested within the Delhi Assembly against what they termed as the "illegal arrest" of their chief minister.
In a digital briefing, Sunita Kejriwal said that her husband would disclose details and evidence related to the alleged liquor scam during the court hearing on Thursday. She questioned the findings of the central probe agency, noting the absence of substantial evidence during raids.
Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, while refusing to intervene in Kejriwal's arrest, instructed the Enforcement Directorate to respond to the AAP leader's petitions before April 2. The matter is set for final disposal on April 3 without adjournment.
Additionally, the opposition I.N.D.I.A bloc has announced plans for a major rally at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan on March 31, aiming to safeguard the country's interests and democracy. AAP's Delhi convenor, Rai, emphasized the significance of the event in light of current national developments.
