Kejriwal Seeks More Time To Discuss Cases With Lawyer In Jail, Delhi Court To Decide On Plea On Apr 9
Special Judge Kaveri Baweja has now fixed the matter for passing of order next week on April 9.
A Delhi court on Friday reserved order regarding the application moved by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, seeking direction to increase the number of legal meetings with his lawyers from two to five times a week. The matter was listed before Special Judge Kaveri Baweja, who has now fixed the matter for passing of order next week on April 9.
Earlier on Thursday the AAP national convenor moved a city court urging it to permit him to spend more time with his lawyers to prepare for the cases that are pending against him across the country.
The application was moved by the Delhi CM claiming that two meetings every week with his lawyer, as permitted by the court as of now, were insufficient since he is facing multiple cases in different states. He stated that he needed more time for consultation. Therefore, the AAP leader urged the Delhi court to increase the number of meetings from two to five per week.
On April 1, the court sent Kejriwal to judicial custody till April 15 in connection to the money laundering case linked to the alleged excise policy scam.
The Enforcement Directorate accused the AAP supremo of being involved in the conspiracy of the Delhi liquor scam. Right from drafting and implementation of the policy, to favouring and benefiting from the quid pro, receiving kickbacks, and using part of the proceeds generated offence in the election campaign for the Goa Assembly elections, the ED alleged that Kejriwal was a part of it all. Thereafter, the Delhi CM was arrested by the federal agency on March 21 after he skipped nine summons.
Meanwhile, AAP MP Sanjay Singh, who was released from jail on April 3, stated during a press conference on Friday that the senior leadership of the BJP plotted to put the Delhi CM behind bars. Singh also accused the saffron party of pressurising Raghav Magunta, into giving a false statement against Kejriwal. Magunta is an accused-turned-approver in the Delhi excise policy case.
