The police reportedly said that his leaves were denied though it remains unclear why.

According to The Indian Express, police said that during the preliminary investigation, they found that Sarkar had not gotten any leave for several days, even when his mother was ill. He had requested for leave but those were declined.

Sarkar, allegedly stabbed his colleagues because they “made jokes about his father.” A senior police officer said, “After the arrest, Sarkar said he had a cool head but his four colleagues joked about his father and thus he attacked them”, as per the news outlet.

Sarkar was arrested, and further investigations are underway. Police do suspect that he may have been suffering from mental illness.
