Madhya Pradesh: 12-Year-Old Girl Raped, Found Bleeding On Street In Ujjain, 1 Detained

The Superintendent of Police (SP) said that the minor was taken to Indore on Tuesday for medical treatment as her condition was serious.

New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a 12-year-old girl was found bleeding on a street in Ujjain city of Madhya Pradesh. After a medical examination, it was confirmed that the girl had been raped, police said on Wednesday.

MP Home Minister Narottam Mishra said that a special investigation team (SIT) has been formed to probe the matter and a suspect has been detained.

According to the police, the girl, who probably hails from Uttar Pradesh, was found on September 25, reported PTI. Her identity is, however, yet to be established as she is not able to tell her name and address to the police properly, an official said.

Reacting to the incident, Congress MP Randeep Surjewala said, "What happened in Ujjain has put the entire country to shame. When Shivraj Singh Chouhan and BJP leaders get time from celebrating only then they can hear the cries of the daughters of the MP."

The incident, he said, has brought shame to the state and the BJP government has made it the most unsafe state in the country.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Sachin Sharma said, "A girl, aged around 12 years, was found bleeding on a street located under the Mahakal police station area in Ujjain on Monday. She was taken to a hospital, where her initial medical examination confirmed that she had been raped."

A case was registered at the Mahakal police station and investigation into the incident is underway, he added. "A special investigation team (SIT) has been constituted to investigate the matter and to check the CCTV footage so that the accused can be arrested at the earliest," he said.

State home minister Mishra told reporters in Indore that an SIT has been constituted and a suspect has been detained and is being interrogated.

He said the minor, who was taken to Indore on Tuesday for medical treatment, is out of danger.

“The girl seems to be from some area outside Ujjain. Since she is not able to respond properly (regarding the incident), efforts are being made to talk to her with the help of experts and counsellors,” he said.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Kamal Nath demanded that the victim be given a financial assistance of Rs 1 crore and that the accused in the case be given the strictest possible punishment.

In a post on social media platform X, he said, "It is heart-wrenching to see the case of extremely cruel rape of a little girl in Ujjain. The kind of heinous crime committed against the 12-year-old daughter and the way she ran around in many areas of the city in a semi-nude condition and before falling unconscious on the road, puts humanity to shame."

Speaking on the incident, ASP Jayant Singh Rathore said that three SIT teams have been formed including cyber, crime, and state police to investigate the case.

"SP Sachin Sharma has made three SIT teams including cyber, crime, and state police... On many points, the investigation is being done. The accused will be arrested soon. The health of the girl was not well, she has been kept in MYH hospital in Indore, and she is currently stable," he said.
