Delhi Man Calls PCR To Report Father's 'Murder By Intruders', Is Found To Have Stabbed Retiree Himself

According to PTI, Mahesh Thakur was allegedly upset that his father, Gautam Thakur, had helped his elder brother buy property.

A retired Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MNTL) mechanic was allegedly stabbed to death by his son at their residence in east Delhi's New Ashok Nagar on Saturday morning. According to PTI, Mahesh Thakur was allegedly upset that his father, Gautam Thakur, had helped his elder brother buy property.

A PCR call regarding the incident was received at 8.40 am, made by Mahesh.

Initially, Mahesh told the police that he saw two intruders in their house, The Indian Express reported. He said that, around 6.15 am, he heard noises coming from his father’s room. When he went to check, he claimed, he saw two intruders who then attacked him with a knife and injured his left hand.

However, during the early investigations, the police reportedly found inconsistencies in Mahesh's narration and discrepancies in his story.

When Mahesh was interrogated, he reportedly came clean. He said he had discovered that his father was planning to sell the house where the family resided. He claimed the plan was a secret between his father and the elder brother, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (East) Apurva Gupta told PTI.

He also said his father had sold some property around two years ago and used the proceeds to help the elder brother buy some real estate in New Ashok Nagar, while Mahesh received nothing.

The DCP said Mahesh felt betrayed, and thus planned and executed his father’s murder while the rest of the family was asleep, PTI reported.

The police team who responded to the PCR call found Gautam Thakur dead on the bed in his room on the first floor of the house. According to Gupta, he had stab injuries in the abdomen.

Following his confession, Mahesh was arrested. The alleged murder weapon, a large kitchen knife, was recovered from a water tank on the roof of an adjacent house, the police said.

Gautam retired from MTNL in 2012 and was living with his two sons and their families on the first floor of the house. All the family members were present in the house when the incident took place.
