Bengaluru: ATM Guard Steals Rs 20 Lakh From Kiosk To Marry Girlfriend, Arrested In Assam
The guard became friendly with the cash-loading staff and found out the password to open the cash cassette in the ATM
A security guard employed with the Union Bank of India in Bengaluru stole nearly Rs 20 lakh cash from the bank's ATM kiosk in order to marry his girlfriend. Police has recovered Rs 14.2 lakh in cash from the suspect named Diponkar Nomosudra, according to Times of India report.
The 23-year-old Diponkar, who had taken up the job of a security guard at the bank's ATM kiosk at 13th Cross in Wilson Garden just six months ago was arrested from his hometown in Assam.
Accordig to the police, Diponkar became friendly with the cash-loading staff and found out the password to open the cash cassette in the ATM by sneaking into their diary. Later he hatched a plan to steal the cash to marry his girlfriend and move to his native place Karimganj.
The culprit planned the robbery between 7.50 pm and 8.20 pm on November 17. Interestingly, the act of stealing cash while he changed clothes inside the ATM kiosk was simultaneously recorded on CCTV camera.
The footage also captured him moving away from one of the cameras and switching off the light. The incident came to fore the next morning after the bank staff noticed the guard missing and the ATM emptied of cash.
It is when the bank's senior manager Khushbu Sharma filed a complaint with Wilson Garden police, accusing Nomosudra of fleeing with Rs 19,96,600.
A case was registered under IPC section 381 and DCP (central) R Srinivas Gowda formed a special team headed by inspector A Raju to nab the suspect. The team visited Nomosudra's hometown from where he was arrested. The preliminary investigation revealed that the guard had spent more than Rs 5 lakh enjoying with friends and staying in luxury hotels.
Nomosudra narrated to police that he had no intention of stealing cash until he was aware of the cash cassette password. The guard also mentioned facing financial difficulties in marrying his girlfriend. He was planning to build a house and open a hotel.
The suspect, who had no criminal antecedents, was produced in court and remanded in judicial custody.
