Victim Lived With Mother, Adopted A Cat After Divorce
The victim had kept a cat to overcome loneliness, which died Thursday, India Today reported citing her family members. When Pooja's mother asked her to bury the cat, she refused, believing and insisting that it would come back to life.
She held the cat's body close for two days, unwilling to let it go. When her mother and other family members tried to persuade her to bury the animal, she remained adamant.
On Saturday, Pooka locked herself in her room when the cat did not return to life and hanged herself from the ceiling fan. It was only when her mother went to check on her that she found her hanging in the room on the third floor. She screamed in anguish and alerted her neighbours after finding her daughter's body, the report added.
The police was informed about the incident, following which they took the body for a post-mortem examination. Forensic team also collected evidence from the victim's house.
Police said that action would be taken based on the post-mortem report. The matter is currently under investigation.
