RG Kar Case Victim's Parents Slam CM Mamata Banerjee: 'Can't Disown Kolkata Police's Failure'

Parents of the RG Kar rape and murder victim accused police and hospital of destroying evidence and blamed CM Mamata Banerjee for shielding conspirators.

The parents of the victim of RG Kar rape and murder case targeted Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday saying she cannot disown the responsibility for the alleged attempt of the police and hospital authorities to destroy evidence of the rape and murder of their daughter.

The parents alleged that the police and the hospital authorities attempted to shield the "main conspirators" behind the crime. The parents also alleged that the Central Bureau of Investigation failed to book all the perpetrators and overlooked the larger conspiracy aspect, reported PTI.

The deceased medic’s mother accused Kolkata police, the hospital administration, and people's representatives from the ruling Trinamool Congress of playing an "active role in hushing up the ghastly incident so that truth does not come to light."

"The CM cannot disown the failure of Kolkata Police, hospital and the administration,” the mother of the deceased said while speaking to a Bengali TV channel.

The mother demanded an answer from the CM on why the crime scene was not sealed and evidence was tampered with by the entry of a large number of onlookers. She questioned why only one Sanjay Roy was identified as the "sole perpetrator" of the crime from the footage of 68 people moving in the area on August 9 morning till midday.

She also questioned the role of CBI for its probe into the matter alleging that it did not act on the issue of alleged suppression of facts.

"These matters were not properly addressed by CBI despite our testimony to the agency," said the victim's father accusing both CBI and Kolkata Police of holding a shoddy investigation "to shield some people."

Reacting to the allegations, TMC's Kunal Ghosh termed them "unfortunate".

“Those comments seem to be prompted by some forces which want to show the TMC and the state government in poor light to defame the CM," he said.

The TMC leader said it was the CM under whose instruction Kolkata Police hastened up the investigation immediately after the incident and arrested Sanjay Roy.

The body of the 31-year-old postgraduate medical trainee was found in the seminar hall of the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. A local court in Kolkata sentenced Sanjay Roy, the lone convict, to life imprisonment till death on January 20.
