At least 44 people have been rescued and shifted to safer places after water entered their houses amidst flood-like situati in Porbandar after heavy rains.

Porbandar: The city of Porbandar in Gujarat has been facing monsoon's fury, after torrential rains for the past three days left the region inundated. The water-logging in the low-line areas has now escalated to a flood-like situation in the city. The government has rescued 44 people so far and moved them to safer places as the city continues to receive rain. Heavy rains have also disrupted the electricity supply in some places and affected the train services as well.

Amidst the flood-like situation, Union Minister and Porbandar MP Mansukh Mandaviya visited the flood-affected areas to take stock of the situation. He visited a small village named Bokhira, where it had been raining for the past two days.

"The administration is here to assess how the water is not filled here permanently and it can be removed. The administration has been given directions," the Porbandar MP said.

44 Rescued, Facilities Being Provided To 600 People In Shelter Homes

The Union Minister also stated earlier today that the heavy rains have caused several rivers in the district to swell. 44 people have also been rescued and shifted to safer places after water entered their houses.

Mandaviya also said that the over 600 people who are staying in shelter homes are being provided with the necessary facilities.

"The entire district administration and our public representatives are with the people in this disaster situation and are taking necessary steps," he added.

Heavy Rains Cause Waterlogging, Electricity Supply Hit

On the incessant rains lashing Porbandar, BJP leader Arjun Modhwadia said: "It started raining heavily in Porbandar. Due to this, there has been waterlogging and areas have flooded. In many areas, water has entered the houses, and due to this, there has been a problem with the electricity supply in some places...If the rain continues, then there can be trouble, so we have asked everyone to make arrangements for food packets etc."

The BJP leader also said that the people residing in low-line areas of the city were being provided shelter.
