Student Fatally Stabbed During Concert At Panjab University Fest
A Panjab University sophomore died after a violent altercation during a university fest.

A sophomore student at Panjab University died after being stabbed by unidentified assailants following a quarrel between two groups that turned violent during a fest in the varsity.
The victim, identified as Aditya Thakur (22), a native of Himachal Pradesh and a Computer Science student at the university succumbed to his injuries during the treatment, while three others were injured, reported PTI.
The incident took place during the concert of Haryanvi singer Masoom Sharma on Friday night.
An FIR has been booked by the police in connection with the matter and efforts are underway to trace the assailants.
Following the attack, Thakur was taken to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, said the official. The three other injured students were being treated at Government Multi Specialty Hospital, Sector 16.
The incident has sparked outrage among students who held a protest against the police and PU authorities following the death of the student.
What Happened At The Fest?
Thousands of students had gather for the event at the University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), organised by a group of students. Among the organisers was one who had been expelled from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
While the fest was nearing its end and students began dispersing, tensions escalated between two groups on the campus. The altercation escalated quickly into violence and both sides pelted stones at each other before resorting to stabbing.

The loud volume of the speakers at the concert made the commotion go unnoticed by a larger crowd until critically wounded Aditya collapsed on the ground.
Panic and chaos gripped the event with students running in all directions.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Chandigarh North, Udaypal Singh said the udience numbered between 9,000 and 10,000, reported India Today. However, no prior inspection was conducted and security arrangements were inadequate, Singh added.
