Passenger Held For False Bomb Claim At Kolkata Airport, Security Inspection Underway

In the recent past, there have been numerous false bomb threats targeting flights, schools, malls, hospitals, banks, and other public venues across India.

A man was detained by security personnel at Kolkata Airport after falsely claiming there was a bomb on a plane. He was held in the boarding area, and security agencies are currently inspecting the aircraft, according to sources from Kolkata Airport cited by news agency ANI.

In the recent past, there have been numerous false bomb threats targeting flights, schools, malls, hospitals, banks, and other public venues across India.

On October 29, a suspect accused of making repeated fake bomb threats to airlines, hotels, banks, and other establishments was arrested in Nagpur, Maharashtra. According to The Times of India, the suspect, identified as 35-year-old author Jagdish Uikey, was tracked down through a series of emails sent to various organisations.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Shweta Khedkar confirmed Uikey was found hiding in Gondia. Uikey, who had previously written a book on terrorism, had also been arrested in 2021 on related charges.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Faces Threat

One of his latest threats, directed at Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, resulted in increased security measures at railway stations. The arrest follows the detention of a 25-year-old man in Delhi, identified as Shubham Upadhyay from Rajapuri, who reportedly admitted to making false threats, according to NDTV.

A five-star hotel in Lucknow also received a bomb threat via e-mail on October 28, after similar threats to 10 such hotels in the city in the past days. As per the report by police, the e-mail was sent to the Taj Hotel situated in the Hazratganj area, containing a warning about potential bomb detonation on the premises, reported India Today.

In a separate incident on October 16, a school dropout was arrested in Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh, for allegedly threatening to bomb four flights, causing delays and one cancellation.

Additionally, in August, a series of bomb threats in Assam, allegedly from the militant group ULFA, led to the discovery of "IED-like objects" across Guwahati.
