An under-construction metro pillar collapsed in Mumbai's Chembur area, causing no casualties but damaging a security cabin.

An under-construction metro pillar collapsed in the Suman Nagar sub-locality of the Chembur area in Mumbai on Thursday night.
No casualties have been reported so far after the square-shaped steel structure collapsed in the premises of a housing society at around 9:30 pm on Thursday, reported The Times of India.
The steel structure, called a 'reinforcement cage' for a metro pier collapsed along Sion-Trombay Road where construction work on Metro Line 4 (Wadala-Ghatkopar-Kasarvadavali) is underway.
A spokesperson for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) said the agency would conduct a thorough probe into the incident within two days.

Anil Salunkhe, director of works, MMRDA reached the spot and reviewed the initial findings. According to officials, the construction was underway at pillar 150C, where the first section of about 4.5 metres was built and another reinforcement of steel rods of 8 metres was being added by the workers for the second section.
While a crane is typically used to hold the reinforcement in place, workers have to secure the structure with rope tied to a concrete block due to traffic restrictions at the busy junction, as per the report.
The structure collapsed when the temporary shuttering was being dismantled. A turnbuckle, which is a type of metal fastener, attached to the concrete block broke after being struck by an unidentified object, loosening the ropes and causing the reinforcement to fall towards a nearby building.
The mishap did not result in any injuries, however, a security cabin's metal sheet was damaged.
An independent probe will be carried out by a consultant and action will be taken, the report stated.
