Kushinagar: UP Man Forced To 'Sell' 3-Year-Old Son After Hospital Holds Wife And Newborn, 5 Arrested

Kushinagar News: A man in Uttar Pradesh was forced to sell his three-year-old son to secure the release of his wife and newborn from a private hospital after being unable to pay the medical fees.

A man was allegedly forced to "sell" his three-year-old son to secure the release of his wife and newborn from a private hospital in Kushinagar district of Uttar Pradesh after being unable to pay the medical fees, officials reported. The incident caused widespread outrage and led to instant action by authorities. According to news agency PTI, the police on Saturday arrested 5 individuals, including a couple who had taken the child.

Harish Patel, a daily wage worker from Barwa Patti, sought treatment at the hospital for the delivery of his wife. It was reportedly their sixth child. However, when Patel couldn’t pay the hospital bill, the staff refused to release his wife and newborn. As a result, Patel desperately agreed to sell his three-year-old son through a fraudulent adoption for a few thousand rupees on Friday, police stated.

Kushinagar: Police Launch Investigation, 5 Individuals Arrested

Upon learning of the incident, police launched an investigation and arrested five individuals involved in the crime including the alleged middleman Amresh Yadav, the "adoptive parents" Bhola Yadav and his wife Kalawati, a fake doctor Tara Kushwaha, and a helper at the hospital Suganti, Superintendent of Police Santosh Kumar Mishra said.

As soon as the situation came to light, police initiated an investigation, which resulted in the arrest of five individuals. Those detained include the alleged middleman, Amresh Yadav, the "adoptive parents," Bhola Yadav and his wife Kalawati, a fake doctor named Tara Kushwaha, and a hospital staff member, Suganti, as confirmed by Superintendent of Police Santosh Kumar Mishra.

Additionally, a police constable, accused of failing to act, was removed from active duty and sent to police lines. The child was safely rescued and returned to his family, the officer confirmed.
