Delhi: Bomb Threat Emails To 3 Schools Sent By Own Students, Police Reveal Motive For Disruption

Delhi Police revealed that bomb threat emails targeting at least three schools in the city were sent by students themselves. Two students admitted they sought inspiration from previous instances.

Delhi Police have revealed that bomb threat emails targeting at least three schools in the city were sent by students themselves, with the motive of disrupting exams. Among the institutions affected was Venkateshwar Global School, which received a threatening email shortly after a blast was reported at the Rohini Prashant Vihar PVR Multiplex on 28 November.

A police officer disclosed that two siblings enrolled in the school were responsible for the email, as reported by news agency PTI. During counselling, the students admitted they had been inspired by previous instances of bomb threats targeting schools and aimed to delay their examinations. "They were allowed to leave after their parents were issued a warning," the officer added.

Following the email, police conducted a comprehensive search of the school premises and declared the threat a hoax.

Similar incidents were reported at two other schools in Rohini and Paschim Vihar, where threatening emails were traced back to students. In both cases, the students confessed to having sent the emails to close the schools, another cop revealed, as per PTI. They, too, were released after counselling, with their parents being cautioned.

The trend is not confined to schools. Since May this year, over 50 bomb threat emails have targeted institutions, including hospitals, airports, and airline companies in Delhi.
