3-Year-Old Girl Dies After Tree Falls On Moving Bike Amid Heavy Rains In Bengaluru

In Bengaluru, a 3-year-old girl, Raksha, died when a tree fell on her during heavy rain. Around 30 trees have fallen in the city, causing waterlogging.

A 3-year-old girl died after a tree fell on a moving bike amid heavy rainfall in Karnataka's Bengaluru on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Raksha, who was a resident of Jeevanahalli.

The incident happened while the girl and her father were on a bike near East Park in Jeevanhalli.  The fallen tree caused major injuries to her.  The girl was taken to Bowring Hospital immediately by her parents, but she was not able to be saved.

According to the Civil Defence team of Bengaluru, around 30 trees have fallen in the city.

While rains provided relief from the heat for residents of Bengaluru, but they also resulted in waterlogging and traffic jams in many areas of the city.

Hailstorms were observed in areas like Hosakote in the Bengaluru Rural district, and they also temporarily interrupted the city's electricity supply in other parts of the city.  Flight operations were also impacted by the rains as at least 19 aircrafts had to be rerouted to different locations because of the Bengaluru weather.

The traffic police said that severe congestion caused by extensive waterlogging at Hunsmaranahalli affected traffic heading to the International Airport. Later on, though, the waterlogging was removed, and traffic returned to normal.

Flights Affected

IndiGo Airlines stated on the social media platform X and posted that the unfavourable conditions in Bengaluru were affecting flights.

"We encourage passengers to check their flight status regularly. Flexible rebooking options and refunds are available through our website," IndiGo stated and added that their teams are working to resume smooth and timely operations as soon as the conditions improve.

Air India also said that the flight operations are impacted due to adverse weather conditions resulting in traffic congestion.

"We advise all our passengers to check their flight status before proceeding to the airport," the Tata Group-owned airline said in a post on X.
