'Just Another Day Of Congress Turning Bengaluru Into Venice': JD-S Dig At Sidda Govt Over Floods. VIDEO

Bangalore Flood: The JD(S) took a sharp jab at Congress-led Karnataka government mocking its handling of the city's infrastructure which it claimed has transformed the metropolis into a "mini Venice."

Bangalore flood: Bengaluru experienced a deluge of overnight rain leaving several areas waterlogged and sparking criticism from opposition parties. The Janata Dal (Secular) took a sharp jab at the Congress-led Karnataka government, mocking its handling of the city's infrastructure, which it claimed has transformed the metropolis into a "mini Venice." The party claimed that during the next term they could invest on boats instead of roads.

The 'Silicon Valley of India' was hit by heavy overnight rainfall, leading to severe waterlogging in several low-lying areas across the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more rain for Tuesday, warning of continued disruption in daily life.

Taking to X, JD(S) said, "Ah, just another day in Bengaluru where Congress government’s blunders has turned Bengaluru’s world-class infrastructure seamlessly into a mini Venice due to the rains! Kudos to @siddaramaiah & @DKShivakumar for their visionary leadership – Bengaluru is really floating into the future. Maybe next term, we can invest in boats instead of roads?"

Meanwhile, areas around the Kodigehalli and Yelahanka underpasses were particularly affected and in several regions people were forced to wade through flooded streets to reach their destinations. Several trees were uprooted, further worsening the traffic situation. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has begun dewatering operations to clear stagnant water in many parts of the city.

The downpour, which has been ongoing for three consecutive days, has disrupted normal life, particularly in the northern parts of Bengaluru. In the GKVK area, a compound wall collapsed near Judicial Layout and water seeped into an apartment complex in Kodigehalli.

The weather also impacted air travel, with at least 20 flights delayed on Monday night and several others diverted due to poor visibility and thunderstorms. Four flights, including one Air India flight from Delhi and three IndiGo flights from Delhi, Hyderabad, and Chandigarh, were redirected to Chennai. A Thai Lion Air flight from Thailand was also among those diverted.
