Recently, BJP MPs Mukesh Rajput and Pradeep Sarangi were injured and hospitalised during the INDIA bloc and BJP's protest on Parliament premises. The Opposition members were protesting against Shah's remarks on Ambedkar, while the BJP accused the Congress of "insulting" him.
The INDIA bloc members first staged a protest at B R Ambedkar's statue in Parliament premises, carrying posters that read 'Main Bhi Ambedkar', 'Jai Bhim' and 'Amit Shah maafi maango'. They then took out a protest march on the Parliament premises. MPs of the Congress, DMK, RJD, SP, the Left and NCP(SP), among others, participated in the protest.
While taking a swipe at the Opposition, Shah had said, "Abhi ek fashion ho gaya hai - Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar. Itna naam agar bhagwan ka lete to saat janmon tak swarg mil jata (It has become a fashion to say Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar'.
If they had taken God's name so many times, they would have got a place in heaven)." Congress alleged that the remarks show that the BJP and the RSS leaders have a "lot of hatred" for Ambedkar and demanded an apology from him. Rahul Gandhi had said those who believe in Manusmriti will definitely be at odds with Ambedkar.
