Bengaluru Woman Drowns In Lake; Boyfriend Alleges Honour Killing, Father Claims Accident
While her father, Ramamurthy, claims the incident was an accident, her boyfriend, Nitin, has accused him of orchestrating her death due to his disapproval of their relationship.

The mysterious drowning death of a 20-year-old woman in Huskur Lake, Ramohalli, has taken a turn as allegations of foul play and honour killing have surfaced. Sahana, a young professional working at a private company in Kudlu Gate, Bengaluru, lost her life on Tuesday. While her father, Ramamurthy, claims the incident was an accident, her boyfriend, Nitin, has accused him of orchestrating her death due to his disapproval of their relationship.
According to the Hebbagodi police, Ramamurthy reported the incident in a state of panic, stating that he and Sahana had accidentally fallen into Huskur Lake while riding a bike, as per a report on The News Minute. He attributed the accident to "sleep" claiming he had not slept the night before and lost control of the vehicle. Her father also alleged that he managed to survive but his daughter does not know how to swim which led to her drowning. However, Nitin, Sahana’s boyfriend of one year, has raised serious doubts about her father's version of events.
Nitin alleged that Sahana’s parents were vehemently opposed to their relationship and had even physically assaulted her in his presence just days before her death, as per a report on The Hindustan Times. He claimed that Ramamurthy had called him to a friend’s house in Hebbagodi on Sunday night, where he witnessed Sahana being assaulted for refusing to end her relationship with Nitin. Despite the pressure, Sahana remained steadfast in her decision to marry him.
Nitin has now accused Ramamurthy of deliberately pushing Sahana into the lake, suggesting that her death was a premeditated act of honour killing, as per the report.
The Hebbagodi police have registered a case of death by negligence but are investigating all angles, including the possibility of honour killing. "We have registered a case for causing death by negligence. All allegations are being investigated to determine whether it was an accident or a case of honour killing," police added, as per PTI.
