Badlapur Sex Abuse: Rain Fails To Dampen MVA Unity As Uddhav, Sharad, Nana Take Part In Silent Protests

Badlapur School Case: Several leaders of the MVA, including Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar, took to the streets wearing black ribbons and black bands to demonstrate against the Badlapur incident.

Badlapur Sexual Assault Case: Amid the ongoing investigation in the Badlapur sexual assault case, the parties in the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance in Maharashtra braved the rain on Saturday and staged a silent protest against the incident.

Several leaders of the opposition alliance in the state, including former Uddhav Thackeray, Sharad Pawar, and Congress' Nana Patole, took to the streets wearing black ribbons and black bands to demonstrate against the crime that unfolded in Badlapur.

The incident took place on August 12-13, 2024 when two four-year-old girls studying in the pre-primary classes of a prominent co-ed school in Badlapur were allegedly sexually assaulted by a 23-year-old male cleaning staff member inside a girls’ toilet. Uddhav Thackeray, along with party leaders and workers, staged a protest in Mumbai against the Badlapur incident.

According to news agency PTI, the former Maharashtra CM, his wife Rashmi and their son and former Maharashtra minister Aaditya staged a demonstration at Shiv Sena Bhavan in the Dadar area along with party workers by wearing black ribbons and black bands on the mouth.

NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar staged a demonstration in Pune against the incident. His daughter Supriya Sule and party workers were present with him during the agitation.

As far as Congress is concerned, party Maharashtra unit chief Nana Patole along with state party leaders took to the streets to protest against the Badlapur sexual assault.

Uddhav, Sharad Corner Eknath Shinde-Led Maharashtra Govt

The partners in the opposition alliance Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (SP) cornered the Eknath Shinde-led government in the state over the Badlapur sexual assault case.

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray said, "When the government felt that Maharashtra would remain closed, they sent their followers to the court. Our case has been in the Supreme Court for the last two years, and dates are being given. We are confident that we will get justice. Yesterday the court showed that the court can take a decision so quickly...".

"On one hand, the sister is being tortured and these people are tying rakhi. The Shakti Act that we had made has been sent to the President. I want to appeal to the President to pay attention to the Shakti Act that has been sent to your office and that law should be implemented in Maharashtra as soon as possible," he added.

Sharad Pawar on Saturday said that the Badlapur incident has hit the image of Maharashtra in the country. He accused the state government of forgetting that the responsibility for the safety of women lies with it.

Pawar, who took part in a silent protest in Pune, said the government is insensitive if it thinks the opposition is playing politics over the Badlapur incident. “The Badlapur incident has hit the image of Maharashtra in the country,” said the chief of NCP (SP), as quoted by PTI.
