Ahmedabad: 8-Year-Old Girl Collapses In School’s Lobby, Dies Of ‘Cardiac Arrest’, CCTV Video Surfaces

The local police have launched a probe into the girl's death and the body has been sent for postmortem to know the exact cause of her death. Doctors said she suffered a cardiac arrest.

In yet another incident of a child's death due to suspected cardiac arrest, an eight-year-old girl studying in Class 3 on Friday collapsed and died in her school in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

The incident took place in Zebar School for Children located in Ahmedabad's Thaltej area in the morning today. The police have launched a probe to know the exact reason behind her death, news agency PTI reported.

"The girl, Gargi Ranpara, fell unconscious soon after she sat on a chair in the lobby while going towards her classroom in the morning," principal of the school, Sharmishtha Sinha, said.

What School Management Said About The Student's Death

In the CCTV video shared by the school management, the eight-year-old can be seen walking in the school lobby. However, she experiences uneasiness while on her way to her classroom and she sits on a chair in the lobby. She can then be seen sliding from the chair after getting unconscious. The teachers and other students were present in the lobby when she collapsed.

Here's the CCTV footage of the incident. Viewer's discretion advised:

"Gargi was normal when she arrived at the school in the morning. When she was going towards her classroom on the first floor, she sat on a chair in the corridor but suddenly fell unconscious. Since she was experiencing difficulty in breathing, our teachers gave her CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and called an ambulance," Sinha told PTI.

Since the girl's condition looked critical, the staff decided to take her to a nearby private hospital in their own vehicle. The doctors said she had suffered a cardiac arrest and could not be revived despite being kept on a ventilator support.

"Doctors there told us that Gargi had suffered a cardiac arrest. They tried to revive her and also kept her on a ventilator support, but she could not survive," the school principal said.

The local police rushed to the spot after being informed about the girl's death and launched a probe. The body has been sent for postmortem to know the exact cause of death.

"We received a call from the hospital that a school student has died after being admitted. We have launched an investigation from our side and sent her body for postmortem to know the exact cause of her death," Joint Commissioner of Police, Sector-1, Neeraj Badgujar told PTI.

In a similar incident, an eight-year-old girl collapsed and died from cardiac arrest in Bengaluru. She was in the school corridor when she felt dizzy and lost her balance.

She was rushed to JSS Hospital by the school staff, but the doctors declared her dead from cardiac arrest and could not revive her, Times Of India reported.
