Labour force participation rate in Current Weekly Status (CWS) in urban areas increased to 50.4 per cent in the third quarter of the current fiscal year, improving from 49.9 per cent clocked in the corresponding period last year. The labour force indicates the part of the population which supplies or offers to supply labour for pursuing economic activities for the production of goods and services and includes employed and unemployed people.
The PLFS was launched by the NSSO in 2017. The estimate of unemployed individuals in the CWS gives an idea of the unemployment situation in the country. The labour force represents the number of people employed or unemployed on an average in the week preceding the survey date.
