Sundar Pichai Tells Google Employees To Expect More Job Cuts This Year: Report

The tech mammoth’s CEO also said that these layoffs at Google this year were with regards to “removing layers to simplify execution and drive velocity in some areas”

Google CEO Sundar Pichai has reportedly told its employees in an internal memo on Wednesday to expect more job cuts this year. According to The Verge’s report, Pichai told all the Google employees, "We have ambitious goals and will be investing in our big priorities this year.” Talking about that moving forward, the tech giant have to make tough decisions, he said, “The reality is that to create the capacity for this investment, we have to make tough choices.”

Pichai further said that these role eliminations will not be on the same scale as last year’s reductions, and not all of the teams will be affected by this. “But I know it’s very difficult to see colleagues and teams impacted,” he added.

The tech mammoth’s CEO also said that these layoffs at Google this year were with regards to “removing layers to simplify execution and drive velocity in some areas.” He also confirmed that more  “role eliminations” will come into effect this year, as per the report.

“Many of these changes are already announced, though to be upfront, some teams will continue to make specific resource allocation decisions throughout the year where needed, and some roles may be impacted,” The Verge quoted him saying in the internal memo.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Google announced that hundreds of its employees from its advertising sales team would be laid off in a new round of layoffs, and the corporation intends to apply these layoffs worldwide. In addition, last week as well the company said that it would lay off several employees from its Voice Assistant units, hardware teams responsible for Pixel, Nest and Fitbit, as well as in its augmented reality team.

Tough times for the technology sector do not seem to end soon, as every day, there is a fresh announcement of layoffs by some of the biggest tech companies around the world.
