Share Market Today: On the 30-share Sensex platform, Bajaj Finance, M&M, NTPC, Bajaj Finserv, Airtel, PowerGrid were among the gainers
Share Market Today: The two key equity benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, on Friday rallying for the ninth straight session and closed higher to fresh lifetime peaks, tracking firm global cues and renewed foreign fund inflows. The BSE Sensex climbed 231 to end at an all-time closing high of 82,366. During the day, it jumped 502 to hit a record intra-day peak of 82,637. On the other hand, the NSE Nifty50 settled at new lifetime high of 25,235, up 84 points. It jumped 116 points to hit a new record intra-day peak of 25,268.
Stock update
On the 30-share Sensex platform, Bajaj Finance, M&M, NTPC, Bajaj Finserv, Airtel, PowerGrid were among the gainers. On the down side, Tata Motors, Reliance, TechM, ITC, HDFC Bank, Nestle emerged losers.
Sectoral update
Of the sectoral indices, the FMCG index was the only laggard. The other indices advanced, with Realty, Pharma, and Healthcare leading the charge, each gaining over 1 per cent. Nifty IT extended its winning streak with a 0.5 per cent gain. Nifty Auto index also increased by 0.6 per cent.
In the previous session on Thursday, the BSE Sensex gained 349 points to end at an all-time closing high of 82,135, while the NSE Nifty50 soared 100 points to close at a new high of 25,152.
"Continuation of accumulation of quality large-caps by the DIIs (Domestic Institutional Investors) and HNIs and the FIIs reducing their selling significantly and buying on certain days have contributed to the resilience of the market," said V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services.
Global update
In Asian markets, Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Hong Kong settled with gains. European markets were trading in positive territory. The US markets ended on a mixed note on Thursday.
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought equities worth Rs 3,259.56 crore on Thursday, according to exchange data. Domestic Institutional Investors lapped up equities worth Rs 2,690.85 crore.
Global oil benchmark Brent crude climbed 0.08 per cent to $80 a barrel.
Rupee rises 3 paise
The rupee consolidated in a narrow range and settled for the day higher by 3 paise at 83.86 (provisional) against the American currency on Friday, supported by a firm trend in domestic equities and the weakness of the American currency in the overseas market.
At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit opened at 83.83 and touched an intra-day high of 83.82 and a low of 83.88 against the American currency.
The domestic currency finally settled at 83.86 (provisional), 3 paise higher from its previous close. On Thursday, the rupee appreciated 8 paise to close at 83.89 against the American currency.
