Lost Your Aadhaar Card? Here's How You Can Recover It

If you lose your Aadhaar card, there are various methods for recovering it. Here is how to recover a lost or forgotten Aadhaar number when it is linked to a mobile number

The Aadhaar Card issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is one of the most essential documents for all Indian citizens. It is necessary to access a wide array of government services. It is among the most widely accepted forms of identification in the country, indispensable for tasks ranging from booking train tickets to opening a bank account. However, things can get complicated if you lose your Aadhaar card.

If you lose your Aadhaar card, there are various methods for recovering it. Here is how to recover a lost or forgotten Aadhaar number when it is linked to a mobile number. This method of retrieving your Aadhaar number will not cost you any money.

You can visit https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/retrieve-eid-uid to recover your lost or forgotten Aadhaar number online.

Next, choose the option to retrieve your Aadhaar. Enter your full name as registered in your Aadhaar, along with the mobile number or email linked to your Aadhaar, and complete the Captcha verification.

After that, you'll receive an OTP on your registered mobile number. Once you authenticate using the OTP, your Aadhaar number will be sent via SMS to the linked mobile number.

If your mobile number is not linked to your Aadhaar, you can visit an Aadhaar enrollment centre and use the 'Print Aadhaar' service with assistance from the operator. Here are the steps you can follow:

  • Visit the Aadhaar enrollment centre in person.
  • Provide mandatory information such as your name, gender, district or PIN code as per your Aadhaar enrollment.
  • If your record cannot be located immediately, additional demographic details, such as year of birth, C/O (care of), state, etc., may be required to narrow the search.
  • Undergo biometric authentication using a single fingerprint or iris scan.
  • The operator will print your e-Aadhaar letter once the match is confirmed.

Please note this service will cost you a fee of Rs 30.
