The Indian stock markets will observe a holiday on Wednesday, July 17, in observance of Muharram, marking the beginning of the Islamic calendar's first month and one of Islam's four sacred months.
Affected Segments
On this day, the equity segment, equity derivative segment, and SLB segment will be closed for the entire day. Additionally, the currency derivatives segment and commodity derivatives segment will also remain closed throughout the day.
Partial Closures
The commodity derivatives segment and electronic gold receipts (EGR) segment will be closed only during the first half of the day, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Trading in these segments will resume in the evening session from 5:00 PM to 11:30 PM/11:55 PM.
Usual Trading Hours
Typically, the Indian stock market trading hours are from 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM on weekdays, Monday through Friday. The pre-open market begins at 9:00 AM and settles at 9:07 AM on regular trading days. The stock markets are closed on weekends.
Market Recap
On Friday, July 12, the Indian stock markets reached record highs. The BSE Sensex peaked at 80,893.51 intra-day, while the NSE Nifty50 hit a new high of 24,592.20, driven by significant gains in Information Technology (IT) stocks. The BSE Sensex closed 0.78 per cent higher, adding 622 points to settle at 80,519.34. The NSE Nifty50 rose by 0.77 per cent, or 186 points, closing at 24,502.
