Mumbai WFH Vs Bengaluru Pay: IIT-IIM MBB Consultant Seek Internet’s Advice On Job Dilemma

He revealed that he is an IIT-IIM MBB consultant with four years of experience and an annual salary of approximately Rs 34 lakh and is looking for some advice on a job switch

A Mumbai-based MBB consultant recently turned to social media for advice after receiving two job offers: one that offers the flexibility to work from home and stay with his family and another that provides a higher salary but requires relocation to the Indian Silicon Valley, Bengaluru. On Grapevine, a social media platform for tech professionals and startup employees that allows anonymous discussions about careers and salaries, the user known as Maverick2298 shared his situation.

He revealed that he is an IIT-IIM MBB consultant with four years of experience and an annual salary of approximately Rs 34 lakh and is looking for some advice on a job switch.

His post reads, “I am an IIT-IIM MBB consultant. Considering the bleak situation of the consulting industry, I looked out for opportunities and got a couple of offers - needed help in evaluating them. I have 4 YOE and currently I'm in Mumbai and am on INR ~34 LPA comp (incl. bonus). Offer 1: INR 40-43 LPA at an Indian startup in Bangalore and Offer 2: INR 35-37 LPA + equity at a foreign startup with fully WFH model. Challenge is my wife also works in Mumbai and hence, relocating to Bangalore will come at a huge cost (financially + mentally). Recent news about Bangalore does not help either.”

He added: “Any thoughts on how I can go about this? Just fishing for some external perspective here - fo not expect any stranger to solve for me!”

The majority of respondents to the post seemed to favour the work-from-home opportunity in Mumbai. “WFH for sure. You'll spend that extra hike on living expenses, plus no point leaving family,” wrote one user.

“Offer 2 and keep on looking for jobs esp in Boutique consulting firms, they might surprise you with the hike they're willing to offer,” wrote another user.

A third user added: “Please consider only  if the start up is firm enough for runway growth and brand value it holds by itself or by parent company !! The packages alone cant be the deciding factor here…”
