IndiGo To Be First Airline To Start Flights From Navi Mumbai Airport

India's leading airline, IndiGo, and Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), which operates the largest number of airports in the country on the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, have taken a historic initiative together. This partnership is about the start of commercial flights from Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). IndiGo will become the first airline to fly from NMIA.

IndiGo will launch 18 daily flights (36 ATMs) from day one, connecting more than 15 cities. By November 2025, this number will increase to 79 daily flights (158 ATMs), including 14 international flights. This will be increased to 100+ daily flights (200 ATMs) by March 2026 and 140 daily flights (280 ATMs) by November 2026, including 30 international flights.

IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers said, “We are proud to be the first airline to operate from NMIA. This partnership shows that both parties are fully prepared for operations. Our initiative will not only enhance the passenger experience but also contribute to the rapidly growing role of India's aviation industry.”

AAHL CEO Arun Bansal said, “Having IndiGo as NMIA's first airline partner is a significant step for us. The airport will become a transfer hub for domestic and international passengers. Our partnership will provide passengers with more choice and convenience.”

Navi Mumbai International Airport is poised to become India's premier international airport. It will give passengers a new flight with modern facilities, great passenger experience and excellent connectivity services. Its strategic location and state-of-the-art infrastructure will make it a vital link in India's global aviation network.

NMIA's first phase will have a capacity to handle 20 million passengers and 0.5 million metric tons of cargo per annum. Upon full completion, the capacity can be expanded to 90 million passengers and 3.2 million metric tons of cargo per annum.

IndiGo's Expansion And Vision

IndiGo will expand its network to make not only domestic but also international travel easier. The airline plans to make airports accessible to more and more Indian population. This will provide better, affordable and timely services to passengers.

The creation of a dual airport system in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai will reduce congestion at Mumbai Airport and provide a better passenger experience. It will prove to be a new chapter of economic development for the entire Mumbai region and Maharashtra.

About NMIA

NMIA is a greenfield international airport project, jointly developed by Adani Airports (74 per cent stake) and CIDCO (26 per cent stake), an entity of the Government of Maharashtra. This airport will be India's most modern and eco-friendly airport, built in a design inspired by India's national flower "Lotus".

This move will establish India more strongly on the global aviation map and will make a major contribution towards making the country the third largest aviation economy by 2030.
