Festive Sale Events To See An Influx Of Customers, Over 1 In 4 Indians To Visit Flipkart For Shopping

To meet the demand during the festive season, Flipkart has also launched 11 new fulfillment centres and generated more than 100,000 employment opportunities across over 40 regions

The upcoming festival sales events are expected to lure in Indian customers and bring in huge business of online commerce firms. As per senior company executives, more than one out of four Indians are estimated to visit Flipkart during the e-commerce player’s flagship festival sales event, ‘The Big Billion Days’ (BBD) 2024, media reports said.

The sale is scheduled to begin from September 27, 2024, reported Business Standard. Quoting the firm’s executives, the report noted that Flipkart is investing and working towards developing its network and preparing for the upcoming sale. To meet the demand during the festive season, the company has also launched 11 new fulfillment centres and generated more than 100,000 employment opportunities across over 40 regions.

The firm has also ramped up its hiring of women in the blue collar workforce by 24 per cent in comparison to the BBD event last year. Harsh Chaudhary, Head of Growth (VP), Flipkart, noted, “Our enhanced supply chain tech, including machine learning (ML) for route planning and faster sorting, ensures quicker deliveries across 19,000 pin codes. We are also expanding same-day and next-day delivery services.”

The e-commerce player plans to aid sellers in delivering quality service to the customers via updated shipping costs, economic fulfillment by Flipkart (FBF) rates, and simplified rate cards. This initiative of revamping the rate card is a part of the firm’s strategy to streamline operations and provide strong support to the sellers on its platforms.

Other players in the ecommerce industry such as Amazon, Meesho will also begin their festive sale events from Sep 27. The companies in the sector along with the online sellers are estimated to ship products worth $12 billion to Indian customers in this festive season. This stands 23 per cent higher against $9.7 billion worth products shipped a year earlier, data from market research firm Datum Intelligence revealed.
