Dream11 CEO Voices Frustration Over Tesla’s Delayed India Entry; Here's What Happened

Dream11 CEO Harsh Jain has publicly expressed his dissatisfaction with Tesla after the electric vehicle manufacturer refunded a reservation fee he paid nearly eight years ago. In 2017, Jain had paid $1,000 to reserve a Tesla Model 3, anticipating the automaker’s entry into the Indian market. However, with the launch still pending in 2025, Tesla has now returned the amount, sparking criticism from the CEO.
Using the social media platform X, Jain aired his disappointment with Tesla’s handling of Indian pre-orders. “Wow Elon Musk, do you know Tesla is turning ALL its fans and early believers in India into haters?” he posted. Jain’s frustration stemmed from the company’s decision to cancel early reservations and return the deposit, while offering no compensation or recognition of priority status for long-time supporters.
He shared a screenshot of Tesla’s message, which stated that his original Model 3 reservation could no longer be fulfilled due to changes in the company’s product lineup. Tesla noted that it is still finalizing its offerings for India and will return the reservation amount.
Financial Perspective Adds To Discontent
Adding to his grievance, Jain pointed out that had he invested the $1,000 in Tesla stock in March 2017, the value would have grown to approximately $20,000 by now. “Even if I had just invested this $1k in Tesla in March 2017, it would be worth ~$20k now. Way to show fans that Tesla doesn’t care,” he wrote in the same post.
Tesla's Delayed India Plans
While Tesla has been in talks with Indian authorities about entering the market, including plans to build a factory and set up a supply chain, its official launch has faced repeated delays. The discontinuation of the original Model 3, the variant Jain had reserved, has further added to the complexities.
No Priority For Early Believers
One of Jain’s core complaints is the removal of the priority slot that was initially promised to early bookers. “Now that Tesla is FINALLY launching almost 10 YEARS later, they’re only going to refund me $1k and take away my priority slot?” he questioned. Tesla has not yet issued a public response to Jain’s remarks.
