Budget Session: Opposition Raises Adani Issue, Ban On BBC Documentary At All-Party Meet

New Delhi: The Union government convened an all-party meeting today ahead of the Budget session of the Parliament. The customary meeting, called by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, was held in Parliament Annexe Building.
 
Briefing the media after the meeting, Pralhad Joshi said, "37 leaders from 27 parties participated in the all-party meeting today."
 
"Today's meeting went well. I seek the cooperation of the opposition to run the House well.  We are ready to discuss all issues," he added.
 
At the meeting, Aam Aadmi Party's Sanjay Singh, RJD's Manoj Jha, DMK, Left parties and others raise the Adani issue and sought a discussion on it in Parliament during the session.
 
The US-based short seller Hindenburg Research has accused the Adani Group of wrongdoing like stock manipulation. The company has dismissed the allegations as "nothing but a lie".
 
The Trinamool Congress raised the issue of the ban on the BBC documentary on PM Modi.
 
The YSR Congress demanded a nationwide caste-based economic census at the meeting.
 
BSP raised the issue of Chinese intrusion and asked for a discussion in the Parliament, to which, the government responded by saying that some matters can’t be discussed on the floor of the house as it concerns security.
 
BJD MP, Sasmit Patra said, "Women's Reservation Bill is going to be a priority for BJD in this session. We've been pushing for the passage of the Bill. We'll also build consensus with like-minded parties to put pressure on the Govt to ensure that the Bill is passed."
 
"PM Awas Yojana & PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana have specific timelines. PMGKAY has been stopped, we want renewal & continual. PMAY - houses still to be constructed, sanctioned & they'll stop this program by 2024. We'll demand that all pending houses should be provided," he added.

Deputy Leader of the House, Rajnath Singh, Leader of the House, Piyush Goyal, MoS, Parliamentary Affairs, Arjuna, Ram Meghwal, and V Muraleedharan were among those present for the meeting.

According to news agency ANI, opposition parties including DMK leader TR, Balu, TMC leaders Sudip Bandyopadhyay and Sukhendu Sekhar Ray, TRS leaders K Keshava Rao and Nama Nageswara Rao were in attendance.

The Budget Session will begin from January 31 with President Droupadi Murmu's address to the joint sitting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

The first part of the Budget Session will conclude on February 14. Parliament will reconvene on March 12 for the second part of the Budget Session.
