Banks To Remain Closed On Gurpurab, Two Other Days This Week. Check Details

This week banks will remain closed for three days in some states due to festivals including the second Saturday. Make sure you avoid going to banks on these days to avoid inconvenience.

One of the most sacred festivals of the Sikh community, Guru Nanak Jayanti will be observed tomorrow (November 8). The bank will observe a holiday in some states on the occasion of the 553rd birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism. This week banks will remain closed for three days in some states due to festivals including the second Saturday and Sunday.

Also referred to as Prakash Utsav or Guru Purab, the festival is one of the most important occasions when Sikhs from across the world pay their tributes to their Guru. The festival falls 15 days after Diwali on the auspicious occasion of Kartik Purnima. This year, on the occasion of Kartik Purnima, a total Lunar Eclipse or Chandra Grahan.

Guru Nanak Jayanti - November 8

Guru Nanak Jayanti, Kartika Purnima, and Rahas Purnima.

Banks will be closed in Aizawl, Belapur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Raipur, Ranchi, Shimla, and Srinagar.

Kanakadasa Jayanthi/Wangala Festival- November 11

Apart from the celebration of Guru Nanak Jayanti, banks will observe the holiday on November 11 in certain states this week. Banks in Bengaluru, Shillong will be closed shut on 11 November on account of Kanakadasa Jayanthi/Wangala Festival.

Second Saturday- November 12

Banks will remain closed on the second Saturday, November 12 and Sunday, November 13.

This month banks will observe a total of 10 holidays in November including the second and fourth Saturdays, as well as every Sunday of the month. The Reserve Bank of India has categorised bank holidays into three categories — Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act; Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act and Real-Time Gross Settlement Holiday; and Banks’ Closing of Accounts.

Also, note that markets will also remain closed on Tuesday. Trading at Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) will also remain suspended on the occasion of Gurunanak Jayanti.

It's better to note the holidays above in respective states to avoid any inconvenience. However, online bank services are available round the clock.
