Pakistani-American businessman, Ali Sheikhani, said he will gift a Suzuki Alto to Nadeem for his win. This became a point of conversation and attracted much scrutiny on social media
Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem secured the gold medal in the javelin throw at the Paris Olympics and made history becoming the first athlete from the country to bring gold in athletics. However, a gift offering for the athlete from Pakistani-American businessman, Ali Sheikhani, has become a point of conversation and attracted much scrutiny on social media.
In a social media post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Pakistani content creator, Farid Khan, said on Monday that Sheikhani has announced a gift of Suzuki Alto for the gold medallist. “Pakistani-American businessman Ali Sheikhani has announced a brand new Suzuki Alto car for Arshad Nadeem for winning Gold medal in Paris Olympics,” he wrote.

The announcement attracted a lot of criticism from Netizens who found the gift an insult for Nadeem, who won the first gold medal for the country since 1984. Notably, Nadeem secured the win for his country on August 1 with a record-high 92.97-metre javelin throw, beating India’s Neeraj Chopra for the gold.
Netizens questioned if this is how the country should honour its athlete. One of the users wrote, “Alto??? Why? Could not find anything cheaper?!? It is your first Gold! Get something worthy of it!.”
Another individual expressed his disbelief at the news and asked if Alto can be made into a convertible car. The user wrote,”Well-done Ali Sheikhani...please make Alto Convertible, I am 6’1” and my head hits the roof of the Alto.”
Nadeem, who hails from a humble background, has become the talk of the town after his historic win at the Olympics. On returning to the country, he received a warm welcome from the public and the athlete’s father-in-law gave him a buffalo as a gift.
