After Record Sales In FY25, Toyota Focuses On EV Lineup To Boost Sales Going Ahead

Buoyed by record-breaking sales in FY25, the firm is banking on expanding its dealer network, launching new products, and ramping up production to keep pace with rising demand for its SUVs and MPVs.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is gearing up for another year of strong performance, with the company setting its sights on maintaining the momentum it built in the last fiscal year. Buoyed by record-breaking sales in the previous fiscal, the automaker is banking on expanding its dealer network, launching new products, and ramping up production to keep pace with rising demand for its SUVs and MPVs.

“We believe, with the kind of product portfolio we have now, right from the small cars to the flagship offering, increased production capacity and our network which is further going to be enhanced in tier II, tier III market... all this will further help the company to consolidate and help play a bigger role in the Indian automobile market,” said Varinder Wadhwa, Vice President (Sales-Service-Used Car Business) at TKM, reported PTI.

The company currently operates approximately 1,100 sales outlets across India. According to Wadhwa, the focus will now shift to strengthening its presence in rural and semi-urban regions, where the company sees untapped potential. “We have been enhancing our sales network. We want to get closer to our customers, especially now when we have a wider product range,” he added.

Exports And Focus On EV Lineup

In addition to increasing its domestic reach, Toyota is actively exploring new frontiers in sustainability and exports. As part of its carbon neutrality goals, TKM is preparing to venture into battery electric vehicles and strengthen its electrified product lineup.

Wadhwa highlighted that exports are also becoming a major growth driver for the company. TKM recorded a 59 per cent year-on-year increase in overseas shipments in FY25, signalling India’s growing role as a global manufacturing and export hub for the brand. With capacity enhancements underway, the company expects this export momentum to continue through the current fiscal.

To support long-term growth, Toyota has made significant investment commitments. In 2023, it announced plans to invest Rs 3,300 crore to set up a third production line at its Bidadi facility near Bengaluru. This addition, expected to go live in 2026, will raise the annual capacity to 4.42 lakh units. Separately, a new manufacturing unit is being planned in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, with an investment of Rs 20,000 crore and a land allocation of 827 acres.

The company ended FY25 on a high note, reporting its best-ever yearly sales. Total wholesales stood at 3,37,148 units, up 28 per cent from 2,63,512 units in the previous 2023-24 fiscal year. In March alone, Toyota sold 30,043 units — an 11 per cent increase compared to 27,180 units in March 2024 — further reinforcing its strong position in the Indian market.
