Mercedes-Benz G580 Electric EQ Launched In India
Visually, there are some tweaks that make it the electric version including a new spoiler and a bonnet which is more aerodynamically designed for better range of course
Mercedes-Benz has launched its electric G- Class in India in production form in India. Called the G580 with EQ technology, this is the first time that the off-roader has gone electric. The off-roader has four electric motors with each electric motor at each wheel. The battery pack is also a massive 116kWh unit with a claimed range of 470km. In terms of power the G580 has 587hp and 1165nm of torque.
Visually, there are some tweaks that make it the electric version including a new spoiler and a bonnet which is more aerodynamically designed for better range of course. Another change is the spare wheel cover which is now a charging cable holder. The interior as well has minimal changes over the regular petrol/diesel version.
The focus in the G580 is the off-road ability since the G Wagon has been about that. Mercedes-Benz has kept that as the highlight here. Hence it has an independent front suspension and it also has a low range gearbox. Plus the water wading ability is quite impressive for an off-roader at 850mm while that is more than the regular G Class. Plus the other talking point is the G-Turn which means it can pivot on its wheels. This is more of an off-road function rather than a party trick. The electric G Wagon has been priced at Rs 3 crore and already the car has many bookings with being sold out till the end of the year. Interestingly the car is also more affordable than the G63 AMG. In terms of an off-roader with being electric, the G580 is the only offering.
