Maha Shivratri will be observed on March 8, 2024. On this day, devotees perform Shiva puja from morning to night, engaging in vigil and rituals. According to the South Indian Panchang, Maha Shivratri is celebrated on the fourteenth day of the Krishna Paksha of the Magha month. In the North Indian Panchang, the monthly Shivratri falling in the month of Phalguna is observed as Maha Shivratri.

According to the Panchang, the fourteenth day of the waning phase of the Falgun month will begin at 09:57 PM on March 8, 2024, and conclude at 06:17 PM on March 9, 2024. Since Shivratri puja is performed during the night, the sunrise time is not essential.

Significance Of Maha Shivratri:

Maha Shivratri holds special significance for two main reasons. It is believed that on this day, Lord Shiva abandoned his ascetic life and entered into the household life with Goddess Parvati. Additionally, according to another legend, Shiva first manifested on Maha Shivratri, and his divine presence was symbolised by the Jyotirlinga, specifically the Linga of fire. It is said that worshiping Shiva on Maha Shivratri can dispel all troubles and difficulties.
