How to Observe the Janmashtami Fast?

Apart from worshipping Krishna, there is a tradition of fasting on Janmashtami. From the day before, during Saptami Tithi, one should abstain from consuming tamasic foods such as garlic, onions, brinjal, and radishes and should follow a sattvic diet while maintaining celibacy. On the day of Janmashtami, one should wake up at Brahma Muhurat, take a bath, wear clean clothes, and take a vow to fast with either fruit or water. Devotees should immerse themselves in Krishna's devotion throughout the day. At midnight, they celebrate Krishna's birth, offer Him food, and break the fast the next day.
