During this festival, married women perform a rigorous fast without water for their husband's well-being and long life. They stay awake all night, worshipping Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. This fast is a difficult one and holds special significance, particularly in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand.

Hartalika Teej will be observed on Friday, September 6, 2024. On this day, women worship temporary idols of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati made from sand and pray for a happy married life and the blessing of children.

  • On the day of Hartalika Teej, take a vow to observe a waterless fast from sunrise.
  • Spend the day preparing for the puja, gathering all necessary materials.
  • In the evening, dress up like a bride with 16 adornments, and prepare temporary idols of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati using sand or clay for worship.
  • Offer Bel leaves to Lord Shiva and adornment items to Goddess Parvati.
  • Perform puja and aarti of Lord Shiva in four stages throughout the night.
  • Conclude the fast the next morning by seeking blessings from Goddess Parvati.
