Cyclone Jawad Weakens Into Deep Depression, Gives Relief For Coastal Andhra Pradesh

Chennai: The people of coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh are finally getting a sigh of relief as the cyclonic storm Jawad, which was playing havoc in the state for the past one week, finally weakened into a deep depression over West-central Bay of Bengal and moved towards Odisha. 

In a bulletin issued on Saturday, the India Meteorological Department said, "The cyclonic storm Jawad over Westcentral Bay of Bengal moved north-northeastwards with a speed of 11 KMPH and weakened into a deep depression."

"The deep depression is likely to move North-northeast wards and weaken further into a depression by December 5. The cyclone is likely to reach Odisha coast near Puri around 11.30 am on Sunday," it said.

Further, the depression is likely to weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area in the next 12 hours, said the IMD. 

However, the MET department still predicted light to moderate rainfall in isolated places of coastal Odisha and Andhra Pradesh on Sunday. 

Meanwhile, in the impact of the cyclone, a 17-year-old boy died in Srikakulam district after a coconut tree got uprooted and fell on his head.

According to a report on IANS, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy conducted video conferencing with collectors of districts including Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam and East and West Godavari districts. The officials discussed the precautionary measures to be taken to ensure there is no loss of life and for allocation of funds to recover from the havoc.
