The protest also advocated for the establishment of a Mega DSC (District Selection Committee) to address the vacancies in teacher positions across the state. YS Sharmila is the sister of Andhra Pradesh CM Jagan Mohan Reddy.

YS Sharmila said, "Democracy has become murderous in Jagan's government. Will you be arrested and detained if you question unfulfilled promises? If this is the case for me as the president of the Congress party, then what is the condition of the common man?"

Police told India Express that the march lacked permission resulting in the arrest of Sharmila, along with other Congress leaders, including APCC chief G Rudraraju and numerous party workers.

Following the action by the police, MP Manickam Tagore took to X and said, "We strongly condemn the arrest of APCC president YS Sharmila Reddy Garu for protesting against the unemployment issue in AP. The manner in which the police surrounded her for arrest indicates Jagan's anger towards her."
