Andhra Pradesh: Vijayawada, Guntur Under Police Cordon As UTF Calls For 'Chalo CMO' Today

Every vehicle is being inspected at the Kaza Toll Plaza near Mangalagiri. So far, 26 teachers have been detained at the Kaza toll plaza.

Hyderabad: Following a planned 'Chalo CMO' protest by United Teachers Federation (UTF) leaders demanding the repeal of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), police closed off all roads leading to the Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's home.

According to ABP Desam, high tension prevailed in Vijayawada on Monday as several UTF leaders have been taken into custody. Police used large-scale preventive arrests of teachers across the state after failing to contain employees during the 'Chalo Vijayawada' protest in February.

Reportedly, police also intercepted teachers going to school in the morning in Tenali's Vemuru constituency and arrested them. Extensive inspections are being carried out across the Guntur district as well. People going to railway stations and bus stations are allowed to go ahead only after screening.

Police were heavily deployed on Prakasam Barrage and Kanakadurga Bridge. All types of vehicles heading towards Thadepalli are being inspected. In Nellore and Atmakuru constituencies, police have arrested 100 UTF leaders who left for Vijayawada. In Vijayawada, hotels, lodges, railway stations and bus stands are being thoroughly inspected, and suspects are being shifted to Police Stations.

"We request the teachers union leaders and teachers to call off such protests to the chief minister’s office or residence as anti-social elements might take advantage from such programmes" Guntur district SP Arif Hafeez said, as quoted by The Times Of India.
