Andhra Pradesh Reports Two More Omicron Cases, State Tally Reaches 4

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh reported two more Omicron cases on Friday, taking the state tally to four. According to health officials, the variant was detected in two international passengers who arrived here last week.
A 41-year-old woman, who had arrived from Kuwait on December 19 and left for Nedunuru Pedapalem village in East Godavari district after landing in Vijayawada, tested Covid positive, said officials.
According to a health official, after the woman tested positive for Covid, her sample was sent to the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) in Hyderabad for genome sequencing, where she was found to be infected with the Omicron variant.
In the second case, a 33-year-old man arriving in Visakhapatnam from the UAE on December 15 was diagnosed with Covid. He was brought to a hospital after he complained of mild fever. His sample was also sent to the CCMB, Hyderabad for genome sequencing and he was found to be infected by the new strain on December 23. This is the first case of Omicron in Visakhapatnam.
So far, a total of 53 international travellers and 9 contacts were found to be Covid -19 positive and all the samples were sent for genome sequencing, said the director, public health.

Meanwhile, the LNJP Hospital, Delhi's largest healthcare facility, has reported 40 Omicron cases till now. However, 19 of these patients have already been discharged.
"Ninety per cent of the patients have no symptom at all. The rest have mild symptoms such as sore throat, low-grade fever, and migraine. We are giving them multivitamins and paracetamol tablets as part of the treatment. There is no need of any other medication," said a senior doctor at LNJP.
