The incident occurred when an APSRTC bus crashed into a platform and mowed down people, including an 18-month-old girl.
At least two people died and three others sustained injuries after an Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation bus rammed into a platform at the Vijayawada bus stand in Andhra Pradesh on Monday, as reported by the news agency ANI. The incident occurred this morning when an APSRTC bus crashed into platform no. 12 of the terminus and mowed down people, including an 18-month-old girl who sustained injuries and died later at a hospital, as reported by the news agency PTI. Telugu Desam Party National General Secretary Nara Lokesh slammed the Jagan Mohan Reddy-led state government over the accident that occurred in Vijayawada.
In response to this incident, Nara Lokesh has held the Jagan Mohan Reddy government fully accountable for the accident and highlighted that accidents frequently occur in Andhra Pradesh due to the use of outdated buses. He further claimed that not a single new bus has been purchased since the YSRC government came to power in the state.
The TDP National General Secretary also offered his deepest condolences to the families of the accident victims. He also called for significant compensation to be provided to the families of the deceased and those who were injured. Furthermore, Nara Lokesh stated that for four and a half years, the government hasn't even allocated funds for the acquisition of nuts and bolts in RTC garages. He asserted that the APSRTC staff is under immense pressure due to the lack of recruitment.
A woman and the bus conductor were among the deceased, as per the news agency IANS. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals. The incident occurred when a RTC Metro Luxury bus for Guntur arrived to pick up passengers. According to IANS, police suspected that the driver apparently put the first gear instead of the reverse gear, which led to the tragic incident.
