Andhra Pradesh District Count Doubles From 13 To 26, Notification Issued

A gazette issued by the Andhra Pradesh govt notified that now the total number of districts in the state has been increased from the existing 13 to 26.

New Delhi: In a big move, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy-led cabinet on Tuesday gave a nod to increasing the number of districts in the state.

After the creation of new districts was finalised by the state's Cabinet, a gazette issued by the Andhra Pradesh govt notified that now the total number of districts in the state has been increased from the existing 13 to 26. The new districts are being formed under the AP Districts Formation Act, Section 3(5). 

Some of the districts have been renamed a new headquarters have been assigned. Andhra Pradesh's new districts have been created based on parliamentary constituencies in the state.

Creating new districts based on parliamentary constituencies has been a long-awaited promise of CM Jagan Reddy. In its election manifesto, YSR Congress had stated it will form new districts in every Lok Sabha constituency for administrative convenience.

As per the latest notification, East Godavari district has been divided into three districts, West Godavari district has been split into two districts, Krishna district has been split into two districts, Guntur district has been divided into three districts, Kurnool district has been split into two districts, Chittoor divided into two districts and Anantapur district has been divided into two districts while Manyam district has been carved out of Vizianagaram district.
