Trudeau, Harjit Sajjan meet Punjab CM

Amritsar (Punjab) [India], Feb 21 (ANI): Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, along with his Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan on Wednesday met Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.

The Congress leader earlier had refused to meet Trudeau, claiming the Canadian Prime Minister's cabinet members supported the formation of Khalistan, a separate Sikh state movement.

Amarinder Singh in April last year during Canadian Defence Minister Harjit Singh Sajjan's visit to India called the Canadian MP a 'Khalistani sympathizer.'

The Punjab Chief Minister felt Sajjan was advocating for the formation of Khalistan.

Meanwhile, Punjab Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu said the meeting between the Canadian PM and the Punjab CM would not only strengthen the ties between the two countries but would also help to transform them.

"The 20-minute meeting between Captain Amarinder Singh and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau can take Punjab 20 years ahead," Sidhu told ANI.

Earlier in the day, the Canadian Prime Minister, who is on a week-long State visit, arrived at Amritsar's Golden Temple, along with his wife and children and described it as a "beautiful, meaningful place" in the visitors' book. (ANI)
